Players To Watch At The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship

January 16, 2023

Tommy Fleetwood (England)
Last five results: T53-TG4-1-T5-20

The 2017 and 2018 champion is a force around the capital and will be a strong contender for the Falcon Trophy come Sunday. The nine-time European Tour winner enjoyed a strong 2022 campaign, with one win and eight top-10s from 26 starts. Will be aiming to continue that sizzling form into the new season, with sights of a maiden major triumph.

Shande Lowry (Ireland)
Last five results: 1-MC-T23-T23-18

The Offaly man, who won in Abu Dhabi in 2018, always draws large Irish support and will be hoping to continue his solid form this weekend. With it being a new campaign, there is a blank canvas for the world No.21 and expectations will be higher than ever with it being a Ryder Cup year.

Tyrrell Hatton (England)
Last five results: T8-T7-T45-T13-T2

The Englishman loves desert conditions and will be a serious threat in Abu Dhabi having lifted the Falcon Trophy in 2021. He only missed two cuts from 25 starts last year, including finishing second at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and DP World Tour Championship. Although he failed to win last season, Hatton will surely put it right in 2023, especially with it being a Ryder Cup year.

Patrick Reed (America)
Last five results: T49-T47-T31-T5-MC

The 2018 Masters champion made the switch to LIV golf from the PGA Tour last year. Despite reaching a career-high of sixth in the world in 2020, his ranking has plummeted to 80th. The 32-year-old is a risk taker on the course and, if he can get a roll, he will be fun to watch at the weekend. Doesn’t lack confidence and will attack the most difficult lines around Yas Links.
