Dubai World Cup Carnival Preview: Week 2

January 13, 2023

After a stunning opening night seven days ago, on which Irishman Tadhg O’Shea rode his 700th winner in the UAE, Cathal McHugh is back to preview tonight’s card at Meydan.

Cathal has gone on a world tour for his selections this week, with one from the UK and a huge outsider from Turkey!

At 6.35 pm (local time), Cathal has gone for Al Dasim in the Al Wasl Stakes over 6f. Trained by George Boughey in Newmarket, England, the three-year-old finished just 3/4 length behind his opponent tonight, Princeville, when they last met but has a great chance of overturning that defeat at a more suitable trip tonight.

Cathal’s second selection tonight is in the final race at 9.30 pm. Aegean Finale has won eight times from twelve starts and is Group One placed in Turkey. Although he may have something to find tonight, he definitely represents value.

Check out our preview below!

Selections:
7.45 – Al Wasl Stakes – Al Dasim
9.30 – Azizi Riviera – Aegean Finale

And remember, McCafferty’s Wafi is the place to be after racing for their Friday After Carnival Package! Enjoy unlimited drinks and great craic from 10 pm-1 am for just AED199, with live music from Daniel Walsh.
