Which Beauty Trends Will Rock 2023?

January 12, 2023

Warm Hair Colours

Copper hair was all the rage in 2022 and will be bigger come 2023. The warm red hue will dominate the year, with celebrities like Kendall Jenner, SZA, and Zendaya fuelling the rave. Searches for copper hair have increased by a whopping 8,000% just before the year ended. What’s fantastic about copper is that it works for every skin tone. Plus, it has many tone options to help you find the right one.

Breastmilk for Skincare

Okay, before you get weirded out by this, breastmilk has colostrum, aka ‘liquid gold’. Colostrum is the first milk a mother produces during pregnancy, and it’s packed with minerals, vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, and nutrients. These components help replenish your skin barrier and promote collagen production for smoother, firmer skin. They can also minimise the visible signs of ageing, soothe inflammation and reduce sensitivity in certain conditions, such as atopic dermatitis.

Editor’s Tip: You can add colostrum to your skincare routine through supplements or powders that you can mix into your DIY face masks.

Advanced Skin Cycling

Dr Whitney Bowe, board-certified dermatologist, research scientist, and founder of DWB Beauty, is the brain behind the massive skin cycling trend on TikTok! This skincare approach taught us to alternate between active ingredients (like retinol and acids) for the best skin ever. You space out the days when you use these active ingredients and when to only cleanse and moisturise. However, it’s about to level up with advanced skin cycling.

Editor’s Tip: Advanced skin cycling lets you personalise your routine once your skin has adjusted to retinol or acids. If you can now tolerate these products more frequently, you can add any active ingredient to your recovery night. If your skin can push these ingredients, you are free to dial it up!

Airbrush Nails

The airbrush trend of the 90s is back, with extra focus on our manicures. Traditional airbrush nail art uses airbrush machines to add a pop of colour to your nails. It’s a versatile way to customise the colours and embellishments according to your aesthetic.

Editor’s Tip: You can opt for subtle, hazy colours or go all out with vibrant, artistic hues.

Side Parting

The chic side part of the aughts will make a huge comeback this year. We are so excited about this because side parts did not deserve all the hate it got because it was, quote-unquote, cheugy. There are many options to style it: tossed, mussy, voluminous, slick, or glam. Not to mention, it adds a femme fatale vibe to your hair!

Coquette Makeup

2023 will flood us with nostalgia, as it will aim to bring back the beauty trends of the past, including coquette makeup. This makeup trend embraces hyper-femininity, innocence, and sultriness with its soft, pastel colours, fluttery lashes, and dewy, pink-flushed cheeks. It draws its cue from society women in the 18th and 19th centuries who, in defiance of social convention, used the French word “coquet,” which means wanton or promiscuous, and engaged in overt or covert flirtation to entice more suitors.
