How To Prep Your Skin For The Holiday Party Season

November 29, 2022

Before you know it, the party season is here again. It’s the season when everything is bright and jolly – from the sparkling lights, ginormous Christmas trees, tinsels, and the all-too-familiar shade of red and green painted on every corner. But before the countdown for the celebrations officially begins, we have a question: is your skin as bright and glowing as the holiday lights? If not, it might be time to squeeze some beauty prep sessions into your holiday to-do list.

With parties coming back in full swing, you’ll want to look your absolute best. For one, it means there will be lots of photo ops. But even more so because you deserve a treat after all the stress of holiday planning. Keep reading for the ultimate timeline for glowing, dashing skin before the festivities kick off!

Eight weeks before: Start your supplements.

Eight weeks may sound like a long time, but it’s barely enough to get your body ready. If you want to achieve that holistic glow come the holidays, you have to start from within. This is the perfect time to start drinking skin-nourishing supplements, as it typically takes six to eight weeks before the effects appear. The best ones to take are collagen and vitamin C, as these reinforce your skin to make it look younger, plumper, and smoother. Omega-3s and probiotics also work, but we recommend them for acne-prone skin.

Six weeks before: Book the Botox.

If you’re looking for a sign to book that Botox session, this is it. Botox is a fast way to smooth out your wrinkles and fine lines, which is essentially what everyone wishes for Christmas. Experts recommend getting Botox injections four to six weeks before, so that it can take full effect. This also gives you ample time to soothe any redness, swelling, or bruising after the procedure.

Four weeks before: Come in for a chemical peel.

Before you raise any eyebrows: chemical peels after Botox injections are totally safe. Many people like to mix Botox with other anti-ageing treatments like chemical peels to boost their youthful glow. Two weeks is also the recommended rest time after Botox, as this is ample time for the injections to set into your facial muscles.

Now, onto chemical peels. Chemical peels may be a little drastic, but they’re worth it. During a peel session, your dermatologist or aesthetician will apply concentrated skincare acids to your skin. This helps to peel off the topmost layer of your skin, which is filled with impurities, dirt, and wrinkles. Once your skin stops peeling off (around a week after your treatment), you will notice softer, smoother, and more radiant skin.

Two weeks before: Freshen up with a facial.

As the weather gets colder, your skin gets drier. Two weeks pre-holiday, treat your skin with a hydrating facial. This will bring back all the lost moisture and restore your natural glow. You can also add extra services, like extractions and scrubs, for the ultimate experience.

One week before: Let your lashes do the talking.

Runny mascaras during parties are not on our festive bucket list. To save yourself from the hassle, get a lash lift a week before. Lash lifts are natural – you don’t need any extensions, chemicals, or irritating lash glues. They give your fuller, thicker, and longer-looking lashes sans mascara and eyelash curlers. Even better, they last up to two months, so you can still enjoy your gorgeous lashes right in time for the month of love.
