Health and fitness? Or big bum and six packs!?

November 19, 2022

The words ‘Health and Fitness’ have somehow become twisted to ‘having the biggest bum’ as a female and ‘getting the six pack’ as a male because of social media.

I have loved health and fitness my whole life. It is something I am passionate about. It is an industry I work in, and try to help as many individuals as possible. The industry is a crowded space, through the volume of people now involved in it, but it’s also crowded with confusion.

Take your favourite influencers on Instagram and see the products they are pushing out to the general public. Herbal teas to shrink your body into a perfect Instagram pic mould. Protein shakes to make your muscles look like Arnold Schwarzenegger back in the 80s. Do they really take these supplements they are promoting? I do think people have realised that most of this is absolute nonsense. However, people are still looking at this every day as they scroll through social media and for many, it’s what they aspire to look like.

Some of the male influencers I see have more juice in their body than your favourite cocktail on a night out. But they will still try to sell you a product they do not use to get them in that shape, just to make some money off the poor souls buying it.

Now back to the main heading. Health and fitness!

To be healthy and fit you just have to evaluate your current situation in life. Am I the best version of myself at this moment in time? Can I make some simple changes to better myself for the future? Can I sleep better? Eat better? Get some extra exercise weekly? Can I challenge myself to be better than I was yesterday?

People tend to think this requires massive motivation and willpower to make changes. It doesn’t. It takes action through thoughts.

Simple thoughts to put into practice daily.

Write down a few options on Sunday evening before your week begins that you want to change this week to make yourself healthier. Here’s an example:

  • Be in bed by 10 pm every night (this can change depending on your wake time but always aim for eight hours).

  • Get in 3 gym sessions this week. Plan them out for each day on Sunday. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

  • Eat 2 pieces of fruit a day.

  • Get out for some fresh air in the evening after work. Phone free. Just your time.

  • Make contact with a friend that you feel could come with you to a gym session. Accountability through friendship is massive.

Above is just a few examples of what you can do to help start your health and fitness journey. There are hundreds of little things that will someday lead to big changes.

We are just starting out here at What’s The Craic DubEye, and I will be helping as many of you as possible on the health and fitness side of life. Come along for the journey and enjoy!!
