Tommy has been making waves in his first season in Dubai, both on and off the field. He was the hero of Round 3 of the Middle East League in Qatar, scoring a crucial point that secured a win for Dubai Celts. With the scores tied after normal and extra time, the game was headed for golden score. With the Celts down to eight men following Cormac Coffey’s unwarranted red card and main man Shane Killoran shooting the lights out…no, literally, he hit a few light poles… things looked bleak for the Dubai side, and it looked to be Abu Dhabi’s day.

But Top Cat Tommy had other ideas. Picking up the ball deep in his own half, Cahill made a run that would make Eoin Mulligan proud. Selling dummies, breaking angles and moving his hips like Shakira, the Glenbeigh Bull fisted the winning score from 30 yards. Cahill’s fisting ability is already legendary around Dubai, but onlookers were amazed by the quality of the score.

When reporters asked Top Cat about the secret to his great fist, he simply replied, “Length and girth.” He explained that he was born with great finger length and was once considered a future world-class pianist before puberty changed everything. When asked if he was nervous about scoring from such a distance, he smiled and said, “When the Top Cat starts fisting, you know the cat is getting the cream.”

This comment is believed to be a reference to a tradition Tommy started in Kerry, where after winning a competition, he fills the cup with Custard cream and licks it out while his teammates chant “TOP CAT, TOP CAT, TOP CAT.”
