New Year, New You: 2023 Beauty & Wellness Resolutions for the Best Year Ever

January 10, 2023

Hello, 2023!

The new year brings a certain comfort: it offers us a fresh start and fills us with hope. It’s like being presented with a clean slate to be better, healthier, and happier. That’s what resolutions are for: to keep everything in line with the goals we want to achieve for the year. As for us, we’re putting extra focus into our beauty and wellness. Investing in yourself always reaps the highest benefits, so we’ll take the ‘New Year, New You’ adage to new heights, starting with these beauty and wellness resolutions. Read on to learn how to join us on this journey!

Wear more SPF.

Skincare is never complete without sunscreen, so this year, let’s vow never to leave the house without wearing one. Sunscreen protects our skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays, which can cause premature ageing, cell damage, darkening, and skin cancer. But of course, choosing the right sunscreen is just as important. Choose a hydrating, broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher – the higher the SPF, the better the protection! It’s also great to find sunscreen sticks for easy reapplication since you must reapply them every two hours to stay UV-free.

Start a journal.

Journals are more than just a diary to let out your most profound thoughts; they are also great vessels to keep you on track. You can write down your goals and track your progress and growth through journaling. It’s also perfect for jotting down to-do lists, expenses, or your beauty goals for the month. It can also help you enhance your writing and communication skills. And since journals are 100% customisable, you can let out your inner Picasso, too!

Give retinol a chance.

Retinol has been the talk of the town for years, and yet some are hesitant to jump in on this trend. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that offers many skin benefits: it treats wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, acne, and sun damage. However, it can dry out your skin, especially if misused. This ingredient can increase sun sensitivity, so it’s best only to use it at night. We also recommend doubling up on SPF during the day for good measure.

Sleep more.

Sleep is vital to our overall health, and yup, that includes our skin! When we hit the sack, it’s the green light that our body needs to go into repair mode. This is when it works to repair our muscles, organs, cells, and immune system after a long day of work. Getting at least seven hours of uninterrupted sleep will give our body ample time to revitalise itself. Plus, getting enough ZZZs can help reduce dark circles, puffiness, and acne breakouts.

Visit your dermatologist more.

A quick TikTok video or a Google search may sometimes suffice, but nothing beats a trip to your dermatologist. Skin experts have gone through years of research to learn how our skin works, so they have more credibility in the beauty department! They know how to treat your skin woes, from acne, dryness, or irritation. Dermatologists can also scan for any moles or spots that may develop into serious conditions, such as skin cancer. Visit your dermatologist at least twice a year to keep your skin healthy and happy this 2023. And while you’re at it, get regular facials too! Facials help clear clogged pores and improve your complexion. And, of course, they’re an excellent way to practice self-care! *wink*
