Kerry’s Dubai All Stars

January 11, 2023

Watching Jack Savage and Cormac Coffey play for Kerins O’Rahillys on Sunday got us thinking. What would be the best 9-player team in Dubai, comprised of players from the Kingdom?

Goalkeeper: Eamon Prendiville

In between the posts is Brosna-man, Eamon Prendiville. Prendiville joined Dubai’s newest club, Laochra Gaels, fresh from winning a Junior Club All-Ireland with Brosna. While currently sidelined, he hasn’t been shy about making his presence felt off the field and is already considered by many the most ignorant man in Dubai!

Defence: Cormac Coffey, Eamon Kiely & Brian Moloney

Dubai Celts’ Cormac Coffey is first up in defence, especially after marking Galway star Shane Walsh on Sunday afternoon. Coffey nullified Walsh’s threat close to the goal and gave his club a serious chance of getting over the line. Given what Walsh did to Kerry in the All-Ireland Final, one would have to wonder why we have yet to see Coffey in the Kerry senior team.

Beside Coffey in defence is Jumeirah Gaels’ Eamon Kiely. The ‘Brosna Buffalo’ is a sticky defender who also loves to charge up the field and was crucial in the Gaels’ recent win in Sharjah. Finally, we have gone for Brian Moloney. The Ardfert man is more famous for riding beours (good-looking Irish women) than kicking scores but don’t let that fool you. We’re told he once scored 2-16 in a club game in Kerry. He retired at the tender age of 32 to concentrate on his womanizing, but we have unconfirmed reports that he has pencilled a big money deal with Jumeirah Gaels in 2023.

Midfield: Caoimhghin O’Beaglaoich & Tommy Cahill

Jumeirah Gaels’ Caoimhghin O’Beaglaoich takes the first midfield spot after playing a big role in his home club, An Gaeltacht’s run to the Kerry Intermediate Final.

Supporting him, we have Dubai Celts and Glenbeigh/Glencar man Tommy Cahill. Like Moloney, Cahill is better known for his scoring ability off the field, but nevertheless, he is a very capable footballer.

Cahill: Top-scorer in McCaffertys every Saturday night

Forwards: Jack Savage, Paul O’Donoghue and Dean Cassidy

Kerry are famous for their forwards, and we’ve got some real quality up top. Jack Savage has been in top form for both Jumeirah Gaels and Kerins O’Rahillys over the last few months, commuting between Dubai and Ireland. He was at the heart of everything for Rahilly’s on Sunday, creating chances and chipping in with seven points.

Cassidy: One for the ladies!

Savage is not the only man in the team with an All-Ireland, as next up is Dubai Celts’ latest signing, Paul O’Donoghue. O’Donoghue was an All-Ireland winner with Kerry in 2014 and is undoubtedly a huge addition to the Celts. He’s also leading our fitness challenge at the moment, so we had to pick him to keep him happy!

O’Donoghue joins our final selection, Dean Cassidy, in the forward line. Another Celts man, Cassidy, is a handy forward, but really, this was a selection so the ladies could get a look at that six-pack!
